The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is an international movement that raises over $30 US million each year for Special Olympics in countries around the world. Law enforcement personnel raise funds by participating in Torch Runs and other innovative fundraising events.

The Nanaimo RCMP detachment support the program by putting on the 'FREE the FUZZ' roof sit this past weekend in the parking lot in front of Wal Mart at Woodgrove Centre.
The event provided a variety of fun family events including a live concert Friday night with Chevy Ray and the Fins, bouncy castle for the kids sponsored by Scott Parker of REMAX, face painting by Jobs Daughters. In addition the RCMP put on some special displays including the Emergency Response Team, police dog services, the bike squad, forensic ID and the marine section.
To raise funds for the special olympics, local force members offered the public the opportunity to 'dunk a Mountie' and Cst. Norm Smith spent an incredible 48 hours on a scissor lift starting from 5:00pm Friday until 5:00 pm Sunday. Donations were received by Norm in a can attached to a rope which he used to haul donations up to his roof top perch.
While the weather could have been more co-operative a good time was had by all with the community effort going to support a great cause.
