Pumpkin Festival Great Family Fun

Crowds of all ages, but dominated by young families flocked to the VIEX 2010 Pumpkin Festival at Beban Park.

Daisy the Cow was on hand in the Agri Building much to the delight of her young audience.
There was a long line up and steady stream of families lining up for the good old fashioned 'hay ride'.

Fantastic Day For The 2010 Pumpkin Festival

You could not possibly asked for a better autumn day than the one we had for the 2010 Pumpkin Festival put on by the VIEX at the fairgrounds at Beban Park.

While the crowds would not rival those that come to the VIEX they might give the big fair some serious competition. Thousands of folk, predominantly young families enjoyed the Festival as they strolled the fairgrounds under perfect blue skies.

There was the main event of course with the competition for the heaviest pumpkin, the winner of which would be taking home a cool $1,000 for his growing efforts. While I was not there when the final pumpkin was weighed in, the pumpkin pictured above being carried by the fork lift weighed a most respectable 686 pounds! One pumpkin which looked like a relative pip squeak weighed over 90 pounds. These entrants would make one serious jack-o-lantern and quite a few pumpkin pies I'm sure.

There was Daisy the Cow entertaining the children in the Agri building where there also was a serious pumpkin carving contest and a never ending stream of kids at the face painting table. Outside the most popular attraction was the hay ride which had what looked like a 200 yard line up of eager kids and parents waiting their turn.

There was of course food vendors on hand as well in case you needed to replenish your energy with pizza and hot dogs being a popular favourite with the crowd.

All in all it was a fantastic, fun, family day and hats off to VIEX staff and volunteers for a great autumn event.
