Stellar Jay A Most Colourful Fellow

The Stellar Jay

This brightly feathered fellow appeared at our backyard feeder about one week ago, but just seemed to be checking things out as he never actually landed on the feeder.

I guess he has decided it is a safe enough place to put on the feed bag from time to time, as yesterday he was spotted chowing down on sunflower seeds at our feeder.

He is not unlike the Blue Jays I remember frequenting the winter bird feeder back in Ontario. I think his blue is a few shades brighter. Like his eastern cousin he certainly is one squawky fellow with a very distintive voice.

In any case he is a nice addition to the Chick-a-dees, Finches, Sparrows, Juncos, Robins,Flickers and Toews that have made the backyard one of their regular haunts pretty much all year long. For a few weeks in the summer they did not all come around but most days they are welcome visitors.
