Kudos To City Of Nanaimo Partners

544 Bags Of Litter Cleaned Up This Year

The Partners in a Cleaner Community program has seen a total of 544 bags of broken glass, paper, plastic, misc. car parts and other debris removed from 100 km of community streets. This was the total collected during the spring and fall clean up program which sees local non-profit groups raise money for their organization while making Nanaimo a cleaner place to live.

The organizations which participated this year include:

Chase River Pathfinders
Christ Community Church
Church of the Nazarene
Claytree Society
Edgewood Foundation
Island Crisis Care
Lion's Club
Marantha Church
Morrell SanctuarySociety
Nanaimo Area Land Trust - Tuesday Hikers
Nanaimo Assoc. for Communtiy Living
Nanaimo Hindu Cultural Society
Nanaimo Travelers Lodge
3rd Nanaimo Pathfinders

Participating groups are supplied with all the training, safety equipment, signs, brooms, shovels, bags etc. they will need to complete the task. They provide the manpower and for every km of roadway cleaned their organization will receive $50.00. With a total of 100 km cleaned in the spring and fall, the local groups were able to raise a total of $10,000 for their organizations.

The total cost of the program to the city is budgeted at $17,000 which includes cost of advertising, materials and supplies and tippage charges at the landfill site.
