Remembrance 2010 Mural Project
At The Military Museum
The annual story of Remembrance Day will be told in a brand new way at the Vancouver Island Military Museum (VIMM) this year – through the Remembrance 2010 Mural Project.
A mammoth 8x3 meter mural,the work of artist Hanne Murray and the school children of Nanaimo, will be unveiled by the Museum entrance in the Nanaimo North Town Centre at Noon on Nov.11th. The mural, entitled, “Vimy Ridge-Then and Now” graphically shows the who, how and why we remember as Canadians on Nov.11th.The mural has been made possible through the financial support of Rona Homecentre, Nanaimo and Nanaimo North Town Centre.
“The Museum is proud to include this mural in our Remembrance Week display,”says Museum Director, Roger Bird. In the week from Sat. Nov. 6 to Sat.Nov.13, the Museum pays tribute to Canada’s veterans of the past and present, including the Afghanistan Mission.The long tradition of war art has produced what one art critic calls,“a terrible beauty”.
On Nov.11th,the Nanaimo North Town Centre will host an indoor, barrier-free Remembrance Service in the Mall’s Centre Court at 10:45 a.m. After this, the Mural will be unveiled and the public is invited to sign the book of remembrance on behalf of family members who served the cause of Freedom. VIMM Open House will begin at noon. Free admission includes tours and a chance to meet authors Charles Reid (Ghosts of Heroes Past) and Allan Snowie (Collishaw & Company).Both authors will have their national book release at this time.
The Museum is located at Nanaimo North Town Centre, 4750 Rutherford Rd.at the Island Highway.
