Another Major Utility Jump

Hydro Wants Another 30% Over Next 3 Years

In order to fund $6 billion in capital projects, BC Hydro is looking to add nearly 30% to the average consumers hydro bill over the next three years. If you are paying the average monthly fee of $71.00 you would be expected to pay another $7.00 per year in each of the next three years.

This would mean that if you are now paying $71.00 per month your bill would increase to $92.00 per month in year three.

This could be another example of the 'chickens coming home to roost', not unlike the looming increases the city of Nanaimo is going to be facing to keep up with water, sewers and road infrastructure spending which is currently behind some 16% this year alone.

  1. This could just be the tip of the iceberg as our aging infrastructure begins to deteriorate and needs attention. Unfortunately, we are already in debt to a point that is barely manageable.
What have we squandered our wealth on anyway?
