Christmas Hamper Program Needs Donations

WORTH REPEATING ORIGINALLY POSTED ON MONDAY
Mt. Benson School Christmas Hamper Centre
Typical Hamper For Large Family (Would include a turkey)
Clothing and Toys Also Needed

Christmas Hampers 2010 is in full swing at it's home in the Mt. Benson school at 4355 Jinglepot Rd. (on the Steve Marshall Ford end), they can be reached at 250-585-2621or email: Christmas.hampers@hotmail.com.

The program which is a joint effort of the Loaves and Fishes and the Salvation Army will help nearly 2500 adults and 1500 children this year at Christmas time. The program is made possible by the generosity of over 300 volunteers who perform the many tasks needed to prepare 2000 hampers for this Christmas program. Incoming food is unpacked, sorted and repackaged into different sized hampers and then carefully organized and stored to make distribution to those in need an efficient process. The organization that goes into running this program is truly daunting.

What is Still Needed

Currently about half of the required 2,000 hampers are complete but there is still a need for sugar, coffee, canned fruit and vegetables as well as another 110 turkeys. Cash is always needed, and if you are comfortable with giving a cash donation, your dollar will be stretched much farther than if you make the purchases yourself. They are able to get much better deals, than you or I could at the local grocery store.

You are also invited to bring in donations of warm clothing, bedding etc. as well as childrens toys for the Toy Drive.

Hamper's will be given out next Mon., Tues. and Wed. so there is still lots of time to make your contribution to this very worthwhile community program.
