City Council Agenda January 10, 2011

Next Nanaimo City Council Meeting
Monday January 10, 2011
Next Monday's council meeting could be a long one depending on how much preparation council has done. There are several major issues on the agenda this week including having a byelection to replace Larry McNabb, to have a core review at city hall, to accept some kind of bylaw for LED signs and the acceptance of an economic development strategy report to name a few.

If you want to do a little 'light' reading you can download the  167 page agenda for this meeting using this LINK. If you take the time to read it, you will have an idea of the sea of documents your councilors are expected to wade through and analyze before coming to an informed, intelligent decision. I'm sure most of these issues don't have to be as complicated as the professionals make them out to be, however, if they weren't, then the professionals would be out of work. :^)

Good reading, and remember our democracy is far too important to leave to the professional bureaucrats and politicians. Take the time to get informed and get involved. It does take time though, so maybe you will have to read the report rather than watch your favourite TV show. But which one is really going to make a difference?
