Comox Valley Hospital Site Chosen

The Times Colonist today is reporting that VIHA has approved a 15 acre site valued at $4 million to be the home of a new 150 bed hospital on Ryan Road in Courtenay. This is in addition to another 95 bed hospital to be built in Campbell River.

The two facilities expected to cost $500 million are still in the earliest planning stages, as now a plan has to be prepared and submitted to the Provincial government for approval.
Once approved the actual construction is expected to take at least four years. The site is also close to North Island College and it is planned that health-care students can be trained at the hospital.
These additional beds serving the North Island should help take some of the pressure off of NRGH.
