Nanaimo Economic Development Plan

Is This A 'Generic' Economic Development Plan?
A recent article in the Bulletin referenced the four major objectives listed in the Economic Development Plan Strategy identified in the recent $100,000 (I think) plan. They include the following four major objectives:
  • establishing an effective economic development program
  • expand and diversify employment opportunities
  • increase Nanaimo's image as a destination for opportunities
  • establish Nanaimo as an attractive place to live and invest
You have to wonder how unique to Nanaimo this four point strategy really is, and how many other communities could not adopt these points as the cornerstones of their economic development plans?

For that matter how much of the profound direction this study provides could we maybe just repackage and sell to other island communities, to help recoup some of our costs? I can't think of one community that could not adopt this stellar four point plan and apply it to their city.

I wonder if some of these reports are like those books you can order for your kids, where the book is the same for all kids with the exception of just inserting YOUR kids name, making it unique and special of course.

It is good to see that council is looking out for how they keep spending your money and make sure you are getting a good bang for the buck.
