Scam Ad On UsedEverywhere.com

Scam Ad Trying To Steal Your Money
The above ad appears on the "UsedNorhtIsland.com" website which is run by UsedEverywhere.com run by Black Press in Victoria. It is the same company that has Used Nanaimo, Used Victoria etc.

The above ad set off alarm bells simply because of the price. A Nikon D700 retails for about $2500, so if the opportunity to buy the real thing for only $500 comes along, something is fishy.
I replied to the ad to see how the camera could be seen and the reply I got was asking for cash payment in advance and was further asking how many I wanted to buy. The impression given is that the seller was running a store in Sayward on Vancouver Island. I have not had a reply to my request for the address so that I might show up in person to take delivery of the camera, I will not be contacted again by this seller either, as they do not have anything for sale and are just hoping to take advantage of greed and stupidity to scam people out of their $500 or more.

UsedEverything Offers No Help To Stop These Ads

Unlike KIJIJI which is a similar free classified ads site, Black Press seems to care little about people's ability to place scam ads on their website. There are no 'report this ad' buttons on their website like there are on KIJIJI, so they clearly do not care much about what kind of ads appear.
Of course it is 'buyer beware' and if it sounds too good it most likely is, but you should be aware that local free classified ad sites are not always what they seem and are the perfect place for the crooks among us to try and part us from our money.

  1. Hi Jim,

There is a Report Ad link on thecUsedNorthIsland.com Ad List page, right next to the "contact seller" box in the "Share this Ad" box, you can also use the contact link and a moderator will look into this ad.

This ad has now been removed an the user has been blocked.

  2. I told you Sean that the new design sucks, people can't find the buttons they need.
