Employees Plan To Help Japan
A group of individuals working at the Best Western Plus Dorchester Hotel in downtown Nanaimo have come up with a plan to help raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief for Japan.
Not content to simply feel helpless as they have watched the devastation unfold in Japan, they have joined forces to do something about it.
The Plan?
They have been folding cranes which will be given as a 'Thank You' to anyone making a donation to the Red Cross at the Save-On Foods in Country Club Mall this Saturday March 19 and Sunday March 20 from 12:00 - 4:00PM. Other locations are yet to be determined for the weekend of March 26 & 27.
The campaign 'Cranes to Uplift Japan' is based on the legend of folding Origami Cranes. If you fold 1,000 cranes, one wish will be granted. The collective wish of the group is to 'Uplift the People of Japan'.
One of the group, Michele Okawara-Augustine is a Japanese-Canadian whose relatives live in Japan, (many of whom have endured the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear evacuation) has shed many tears as she has seen this crisis unfold.
It is hoped that Nanaimo, as a giving community will help them make a difference by donating generously to the Canadian Red Cross Japan Quake/Tsunami Effort this weekend.
