News Notes From Around Nanaimo March 16

Grease Fire: A Nanaimo woman suffered burns to her hands and neck when she tried to move a pot in which the grease had ignited. Firemen warn not to move a pot in a grease fire which can make the flames worse, rather turn off the power and cover the pot to put the fire out.

Potassium Iodine: is in short supply in local stores as people respond to the possibility that the situation in Japan may cause a radiation danger here. It seems this quake has caused a heightened awareness and concern locally.

Robert James Iverson: will appear in court in April charged with murder in the death of 53 year old Cheryl Lynn Sim whose body was found last June at the end of Prideaux and Mill Streets.

Non Partisan Vandals: By Election Candidate signs near Beban Park were the target of vandals as the signs were knocked over and some were destroyed. Seems the vandal had no favourites as they spared no one.

Advance Poll Today: You can cast your ballot in the local By-election today between 8:00 am - 8:00 pm in the Dodd Narrows Room at the conference centre on Commercial St.
