Area Thieves Are Busy

11 Break-Ins Reported In Cedar / Extension

April 13th UPDATE

RCMP arrested David Patrick Thompson and Katharina Louise Ogden in the 1800 block of Kentucky Place on Tuesday at 3:00 am when an alert neighbour reported suspicious activity to the RCMP.

A one night crime wave saw 11 homes broken into in the Cedar and Extension areas. This is in addition to the 34 reported break-ins in the area since mid March.

Local RCMP suspect the recent rash of burglaries which have included 20 business premises can be blamed on chronic offenders who have recently been released from jail.

On the matter of the business break-ins, thieves seem to be interested in computers and the information they can harvest from them, which is then sold to those in the id theft business.

Extra vigilance is obviously necessary, making sure doors and windows are all locked, and that your security system is on, and another precaution which can deter the bad guys, is to leave the TV or some music playing loudly. If they feel someone is home, they are likely to move on down the street. Also, simply being more aware of any suspicious goings on in the neighbourhood and reporting it to the RCMP.
