Ted Greves Byelection Expenses

Total Election Expenses $12,732.62
Total Votes Received 1606
Cost Per Vote = $7.92

Newly elected Councilor, Ted Greves is the first candidate to file their election expense statments which not only shows the total amount the candidates spend, it also includes a schedule of who contributed to their campaign war chest.
Ted's Campaign Financing Disclosure Documents can be seen HERE. (Note: if you have the newest version of FIrefox as your browser you may not be able to see the OK button, in that case use Internet Explorer).
Ted received a total of $6500 from trade unions which includes $2500 from CUPE and $2000 each from Firepac Canada and Local 905 IAFF. He also contributed a total of $5,550 personally to his own campaign.
It will be interesting to see how much the other candidates spent on their campaigns and who their main supporters were.
I would like to see these disclosures made BEFORE an election as they can be helpful in deciding who will get your support based on who their main 'backers' happen to be. I, for one would like to see local elections have a very minimal amount of money allowed for advertising, relying on free editorial coverage in the press and no paid ads, and perhaps with a joint sign format and instead of paid advertising in the local media, let the public decide by attending meetings with the candidates, and meet them in person in order to make an informed decision come election day.
Congratulations to Ted and his 'team' (if he has one) his campaign was very professional and he is obviously got a handle on the details, as he is the first to file his disclosure documents.
