Dead Sea Lion Washes Ashore

Carcass At Sunset Beach Draws Curious

The remains of a dead sea lion washed ashore at Sunset Beach which is close to Neck Point Park last Sunday, where it will remain to naturally decompose.

Department of Fisheries say they have no reason to expect the death was caused by anything other than natural causes, stating the nature of lesions on the body are not consistent with a killer whale attack. There is also nothing to indicate human involvement in the death.

Since it is not close to populated areas, there is unlikely going to be any effort on the part of the city to remove the decaying carcass, which of course will provide 'lunch' for many birds and other scavengers in the area.
