Does This Person Exist?

Vegas (No) Show

Ruth Ellen Brosseau is quickly becoming what could be the basis for a not so funny comedic skit.

Imagine a riding in which a candidate, maybe fakes nomination papers, makes little or no public appearances during a campaign, has a radio interview considered so bad, it is not aired, takes a Vegas holiday during an election campaign, doesn't speak French in a francophone riding and still gets elected to a $157,000 a year job!

Only, in Canada you say? To put the cherry on top of this story is the fact, that as of today she still is yet to be seen in public, which has caused the mayor of her riding to quip 'does she really exist?'. I was wondering if in fact her candidacy wasn't the result of a beer fueled bet which resulted in her throwing her hat into the ring, not showing up for the election never expecting to actually get elected and now is like the deer caught in the headlights.

This whole little example, should for once and for all put an end to the age old question of voting for the person or the party during a federal election. Clearly, you should pay at least 'some' attention to the candidate you are going to vote for, so at least you will be voting for someone who might actually show up, first for the job interview (the election) and then the job (now elected).

Democracy is clearly too important to be left to the politicians.
