Torch Run Helps Athletes

Torch Run Supports Special Olympics
The Law Enforcement Torch Run at Maffeo Sutton Park on Friday saw members of local law enforcement and community members run, walk or stroll to raise money for the BC Special Olympics Athletes.
The weather was absolutely perfect for the event with clear blue skies but with moderate enough temperatures to make the event very enjoyable.
The participants started at the Lion's Pavillion, circled Syw-a-lana Lagoon, then continued around Maffeo Sutton Park along the water, over the Lion's Great Bridge and along the waterfront headed to the Yacht Club. The group then returned to the Pavillion for a barbecue sponsored by Save On Foods and tended to by members of the local RCMP.
After refueling with gourmet quality tube steaks, the Special Olympians engaged the RCMP in a battle of tug of war and a spirited soccer game.
Both events proved that while the RCMP are fine athletic specimens, they were clearly outmatched by the Special Olympians.
If you missed this event this year, be sure to look for it again next year, when you should not only come out to watch, but participate in this worthwhile event as well.
