WalMart Expansion Underway

Old Makes Way For The New

The Woodgrove Mall Walmart Store expansion is currently underway with the demolition of the area that once housed the auto service centre and the gardening supplies. Currently the garden and yard supplies are being sold from a fenced and tented area in the parking lot in front of the store.

The expansion which was applied for last September will see the addition of a much larger grocery area which could be good news for Nanaimo shoppers, but not so good news for others in the food business.

No completion date is known for the project at this time, but just like farmers, those in the construction business have to make hay while the sun shines, which is why feet dragging in the city planning department is unpopular with those in the construction business.

Perhaps the Development Process Review Committee spearheaded by Mayor Ruttan which is made up of four members from council and five members from the construction industry will help cut through some of the red tape and hurdles that city hall planners are famous for.
