Coastal Renaissance Off Departure Bay Run

Coastal-Class Vessel Replaced
By C-Class Departure Bay Nanaimo

In an effort to operate as efficiently as possible, BC Ferries has moved the Coastal Renaissance, which is a Coastal-class ship to service the Vancouver and Victoria crossing over the winter months. The Spirit-class ships serving this crossing will be replaced by the Coastal-class vessels for the 2011/2012 winter and spring season with the exception of the period from Dec. 18, 2011 through to January 4, 2011 when the Spirit-class vessels will be the primary vessels between Tsawwassen - Swartz Bay route.

The Coastal-class, Coastal Inspiration will continue to operate between Duke Point and Tswawassen with the Coastal Renaissance returning to Departure Bay for next summer.

A C-class vessel can carry 1494 passengers and crew with 360 vehicles, a Coastal-class vessel can carry 1604 passengers and crew with 370 vehicles and a Spirit-class vessel carries 2100 passengers and crew and 410 vehicles.

  1. The THREE ferries designed and built for the Nanaimo-Horseshoe Bay run are gone as predicted when BC first announced the contract to build them.

  2. Nanaimo continually gets shafted when it comes to Victoria. Remember the Tamil migrant ship? It was too ugly to have it sit in the Victoria waters, so no problem...send it to Nanaimo.

Give Nanaimo the old ships. Give Victoria the nice ones.
