Choose Candidates To Support
The Concerned Citizens of Nanaimo have announced their support for the following candidates in the upcoming civic election. The pivotal issue with the group is the way city council has handled the Uplands Dr. low barrier housing project.
The following candidates have pledged their intentions to revisit the Uplands Dr. location for a low barrier housing unit that would house up to 40 active drug or alcohol addicts feeling there are more suitable locations for the project.
Roger McKinnon, Candidate for Mayor
Roger McKinnon, mayoral candidate, believes in a new approach to local government. Roger supports the campaign for honest government and states "We will create greater strength as a community by coming together and rebuilding trust between residents, elected leaders and the skilled people running the City." | |
Bill Bestwick, Candidate for Council Bill Bestwick, running for re-election to council, has been instrumental in standing up against poor decision making in local government. Bill stands for responsible social housing, open consultation and putting Nanaimo First. Support Bill on November 19 and put leadership and ethics back into Council. | |
Bill McKay, Candidate for Council Bill McKay openly fights for our communities. Bill is vocal about stopping decision making behind closed doors and encouraging community consultation. Bill is an advocate for transparent government, clear communication and an environment where everyone has a voice - including the homeless. | |
Chris Cathers, Candidate for Council Born and raised in Nanaimo, Chris Cathers has lived and worked in the City all of his life. With a number of successful community projects under his belt, Chris wants to give more to the City he loves. Chris believes that we need to be doing a better job of listenting, planning and leading for the future of Nanaimo. | |
Rod Lomas, Candidate for Council Rod Lomas understands that results need to be worked for, his motto is "no reward without effort." Rod understands the needs of the City and has been following the CCN campaign closely. Rod says "We need to Feed, Shelter and Clothe the homeless of our community; Demonstrate leadership in real long-term solutions to Homelessness." | |
Brian Fillmore, Candidate for Council Brian Fillmore is a man of principle, who wants Council to lead the City through community involvement and consensus. Brian supports neighbourhood associations that have been campaigning against poorly planned wet houses in their communities. Brian wants your vote for community consultation. |
