End Of The Line?

Fall Colors Along The E&N

Local photo artist Sheryl Falls captured this colorful glimpse of what has been a most striking autumn on Vancouver Island. Drier weather combined with cooler temperatures and little wind have resulted in some of the most intense fall colors seen on the Island in many years.

On the matter of the E&N line, the fact the cars used on this line have been removed from the Island leads to speculation about the long term future of the rail line on Vancouver Island. The promise of $7.5 million made by Premier Clark was contingent on matching funds from the Federal government and was also subject to the findings of a study to determine the integrity of the trestles on the rail line.

The cynic in me might think the hoopla and big announcement by Premier Clark earlier in the year may have been in anticipation of a snap election following an HST victory, which or course never materialized. As I have commented here before, in June of 2010, the provincial ministry in charge, after an extensive study determined the E&N rail line on the island was not a viable business and there was no recommendation to provide funding then.
