Nanaimo's Greatest Building On Greatest St.

Great National Land Building Chosen
As Greatest Building On Greatest Street

As part of the World Town Planning Day event held in the Nanaimo Museum on Tuesday, November 8th City of Nanaimo Planners and a group of geography students from Vancouver Island University, asked Nanaimo residents and visitors to vote for the their favorite building on Commercial Street. The results are in, with the Great National Land Building coming away with 28 votes, followed by the Vancouver Island Conference Centre with 16 and the Gusola Block (Mon Petit Choux) with 13 votes.

In the 2011 first annual Great Places in Canada contest hosted by the Canadian Institute of Planners, Commercial Street was named the greatest street in Canada and was recognized for its historic character and its ability to rejuvenate itself in the face of suburban competition. Therefore the Great National Land Building can be called the greatest building on the greatest street in Canada, which truly makes it a great building.
