Victoria Occupy Group Plan On Entering Parade
If gaining any real support from the general public is their hope the Occupy movement folk really should realize you shouldn't mess with Santa if you want to keep off of the 'naughty' list.
The Occupy Victoria group are reported to be planning on peacefully marching in the Santa Clause parade in Victoria. Needless to say many parents are none too happy with the prospect of the Jolly Old Elf being followed this by group.
Locally, the 'occupation' of Diana Krall Plaza has meant Santa can no longer take requests from the kids while seated in the plaza as he did last year. Instead he will be found in the conference centre after the parade.
I would remind any of the Occupation Nanaimo group to remember what happened a few years ago to a certain nameless (only because I can't remember) school superintendent who tried to have Christmas removed from the local school scene. Last I heard she was hiding out in Hamilton Ontario so she could avoid paying a rather substantial legal bill.
So a word or two of advice to the Occupy Nanaimo movement:
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
and you don't mess around with Santa
I'm all for the "occupy" movement but agree with you completely. Don't mess with Santa or the the Lone Ranger... :)
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope that the Occupy movement (in Nanaimo, Vic or elsewhere) don't interrupt Christmas festivities (free festivities, no less). These are for families, many of whom are part of the 99%. More specifically, these are for kids, who do not understand the situation of the world. And this is not the appropriate method to teach them.

If the "occupy" movement ever did represent the 99%, those who are hell-bent on causing disruption to ordinary families certainly don't - and I for one now see them as the 1% that I could well do without.
ReplyDeleteThe Occupiers are a group of people able bodied people. Most of them have homes, some own homes, some even own businesses. So to call them bums is just an example of how uninformed some people are. And I don't think people should expect to see Protests at the Santa Clause Parade. The Occupiers seem like more the type of people to stand around and hand out Candy Canes.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Santa has an friend at city hall. The Mayor has said if they don't leave immediately, council will be dealing with them on Monday night.
