Occupy Nanaimo Group Told To Leave

Leave Immediately Or?????

In a response to a question I sent to Mayor and council regarding the status of the Occupy Nanaimo group in Diana Krall Plaza Mayor Ruttan responded by saying:

"Those listening to the "Wave" Radio will know that if the occupiers do not leave immediately, Council will address the issue Monday night and decide on a course of action. "

It would seem that Mayor Ruttan has drawn a line in the sand finally, although it sounds much like a parent trying to get a child to comply by insisting on counting to 3. The Occupy Nanaimo group state on their website, that they intend to stay until the new council is sworn in and deal with them.

Should Occupy Nanaimo not comply with the Mayors order to 'leave immediately or city council will discuss it on Monday night at the regular council meeting', it could make for an interesting meeting on Monday, should Occupy Nanaimo supporters show up en masse at city council.

If they do, you might want to get some popcorn!

Well it looks like our mayor has finally had enough and is telling the squatters if they don't leave soon, city council will be forced to talk about it on Monday night..... if it wasn't so pathetic, I'd be laughing.

  2. When I worked in forestry (long time ago) there was industry here on the Island. We made logging trucks, logging equipment, etc etc. Look around, all these places have shut down and yet people keep saying the economy has diversified. Tell me why my grandkids with all their education can't find well paying jobs despite a post secondary education that I never had and didn't need.
Those kids out there need help.

  3. Thanks Mayor Ruttan. If only ON group could consolidate its leadership and come up with some reasonable demands I may have agreed with them. Unfortunately these young idealists need a lesson in reality, ultimately this protest amounted to nothing more than a squatter camp.

  4. Much like a communist regime my sentiment posted on the Occupy Nanaimo Facebook page has been censored and I have been banned from posting.

These people have a lot to learn about living in a democratic society with freedom of speech. Perhaps there idea of freedom of speech is to only let people hear what they have to say.
