Thank you Lisa for your thorough research; and, a very clear presentation of the facts regarding both: the Low-Barrier housing issue in general and the Uplands Road location controversy.
ReplyDeleteThis has never been about not providing housing. Indeed, we need to press the BC Government to take the next step in the Low-Barrier housing program and incorporate the proven strategies of subject matter experts in the field such as: Dr. Galster, Dr. Tsemberis and associates; as well as attacking the causal factors that lead to homelessness (i.e. Housing-First initiatives, access to programs and economic opportunities) and improve upon the economic position of those “working-poor” struggling on the edge of homelessness (i.e. access to affordable housing, securing of employment futures, education and career advancement). If this means more cost; then we will have to find a way. The additional funding would be a good social wellbeing investment for the present and future generations.
