2011 Nanaimo Election Ballots Cast By Polling Station

The above map shows the polling stations in Nanaimo for the 2011 civic election and the number of ballots cast at each station. Whether the information is useful or not, I will leave to the end users of such data.

It is clear that when only 26.9% of the eligible voters even bothering to participate, something is sadly wrong not only with the system but the citizens who can't be bothered to do their civic duty.

If the present rate of decline in voter participation continues, sooner or later we could see our council being elected by the Alternate Approval Process whereby the majority would HAVE to vote to change the council.

For whatever it is worth clearly the north end residents cast considerably more ballots than the rest of Nanaimo with Oliver Woods, Departure Bay and McGirr soundly leading the pack with number of ballots cast.
