Nanaimo Drinking Water

Is Our Water Safe??

The recent heavy rainfalls have surely increased the level of turbidity in the Nanaimo drinking water supply. Yet, I am puzzled as to why there has been no boil water advisory issued, since one of the reasons for spending $65 million on a new treatment plant is because our current means of treating water is not effective given high levels of turbidity.

It is not that long ago, that Mayor Ruttan graced the front page of the local daily with a warning that our drinking water may not be safe.

So, what is it really........if turbidity renders our drinking water treatment incapable of supplying safe drinking water, why is this apparent health risk being ignored?? Unless, of course the risk is grossly overstated and the taxpayer is being led down the garden path by the bureaucrats at city hall and at VIHA.
