Is The City Like A Cruise Ship?

Is The City Like a Huge Cruise Ship?
Is City staff and City Council The Captain & Crew?
Is The Taxpayer The Passengers?

This is some idle rambling from an otherwise idle mind as I stare out onto a bleak Saturday morning trying to convince myself to do some yard work.

Is the city of Nanaimo comparable to a large, self-contained cruise ship being steered on a course plotted by city hall staff, aided and abetted by various city councillors who have been given total control over where this ship will ultimately end up.

Are we, the taxpaying passengers simply too busy keeping ourselves entertained by the various distractions offered on board the ship to notice the ship seems to be somewhat off course and has headed into some seriously rough water? Have we noticed that while our captain and crew were trained well enough to navigate us through calm seas under clear blue skies, they seem ill-equipped to navigate when the wind and waves start to whip up??

Have we also failed to notice, that while we have amused ourselves in the many dining rooms, or entertained ourselves with live stage shows or sought our fortunes in the casino, that the captain and crew seem to have been stocking THEIR lifeboats with enough provisions to see that even if the ship should go down, they will be well taken care of.

Now, to that yard work......
