Alphonse Brendon Menard Pleads Guilty


Manslaughter Guilty Plea Entered

It is reported in the Vancouver Sun, that Alphonse Brendon Menard has entered a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of his father, Nanaimo businessman Tony Menard.

Tony Menard had been shot several times with a semi-auto rifle near Nitnat Lake in July 2010. The son had been set to stand trial on a second degree murder charge in BC Supreme Court today in Duncan and entered the guilty plea to the lesser charge in the opening minutes of the trial.

His lawyer is reported to say his client is responsible for his father's death, but that the action was not intentional. He will appear for sentencing on Sept. 21, 2012.
