Did Nanaimo Get The Idea From This??

The Idea Of Floating Tubs
May Be Older Than We Think

As a true blue Nanaimo Bathtub race supporter and enthusiast I was taken back a bit on a recent visit to Cowichan Bay just south of Duncan.

They have a wooden boat museum which includes a wide selection of classic boat motors and mounted on the wall above one such motor was this photo which purports to show a young tyke riding in a motor propelled washtub. I realize that photoshop has made it so one can not really trust what they think they see in a photograph, but this looks quite convincing.

If true, it would appear that the idea of putting a motor on a tub and heading out to sea, may actually predate our famous International Bathtub Race which had it's first appearance in 1967.

This is most likely  a hoax being perpetrated on an unsuspecting public, and I think the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society needs to look into this matter seriously and require Cowichan Bay to prove the authenticity of this photo or at least provide equal space to a photo showing how Nanaimo certainly perfected the idea of propelling tubs across the briny deep.
