Northfield Off Leash Dog Park

There is a new 'Off-Leash' dog park behind the new Tourist Information building at Northfield Rd. and the Nanaimo Parkway.

This is a pilot project which will run until April 30th 2013 and your feedback is invited at parks@nanaimo.ca or by calling 250-755-5200.

  1. A great idea but poorly executed! I have to say I appreciate that there is an effort to add more dog parks to Nanaimo. Unfortunately this addition I fear is a failure overall. In my opinion they should have opened the entire walkway along that highway as an off leash area or at least used a significantly larger area. The new park is nothing more then an unwelcoming eyesore, no seats, far too small, a lack of shade, no dog segregation and looks to be yet another dust pit. In fairness they did add a watering station and there is a washroom nearby but I would expect that this park will go down as a waste of time and resources.

  2. I appreciate the work and expense of the off-leash park, but I have to agree with the anonymous poster above. This may be a good spot for travellers and their dogs for a quick break, but there's no shade and like the Beban park DP, this one will become a dustbowl in the heat.
