'SHERRY FIELDS'
Long Time Local
Sherry Family Recognized
The two play
fields located at Harewood Centennial Park are to be officially named ‘Sherry
Fields’ later this week, to recognize the long term dedication and service to
the community on behalf of the entire Sherry Family. All residents are invited
to join the celebration this Thursday, September 20, at 5pm.
“We are pleased to be able honour the
Sherry Family,” explains Mayor Ruttan, “The Sherry’s have a long history with
Nanaimo and in fact the park and the neighbourhood itself. Although Loyd Sherry
may be the most recognizable of the Sherry names, the entire family has a long
and impressive history of community service.”
“I know we’ll see a good turnout for
the event, the Sherry Family has done so much for the community. Everyone is
welcome to the celebration, it really is all about the community and the pride
we all have in it,” says Councillor and Commission Chair, Diana
Johnstone
The event will include a few speeches
from dignitaries and family members, an unveiling of a new sign and some light
refreshments. The event will begin at 5pm near the Seventh Street entrance to
the park.
