Friends of Pioneer Forest Consider Legal Options

No response From SD68 or City of Nanaimo

Neither the school district nor the city of Nanaimo have responded to a letter from Friends of Pioneer Forest dated Oct. 5 requesting steps be taken to protect Pioneer Forest as a park.

At their meeting Nov. 14 the Board of Directors of Friends of Pioneer Forest agreed to look seriously at their legal options to protect the land as a park. The group has received constructive responses from the Premier and the Registrar of Land Titles in Victoria and intend to pursue the matter at the provincial level. If the reversionary restriction were reinstated the Province could reclaim the property is it is not used for a park or recreation.

It was also decided to ask their lawyer Patrick C. Canning to provide advice regards their various legal options.
