Hamperville Starts Up November 19th

New Location This Year
Madill's Old Building, 2560 Bowen Road

Christmas Hampers Nanaimo is a community organization formed 9 years ago by the Loaves and Fishes Food bank and the Salvation Army of Nanaimo. We gather food and cash donations and distribute to the less fortunate in our community at Christmas time. Last year we served over 5,000 people and distributed 2300 hampers. This year we are expecting an equal number needed due to the sluggish economy. Visits to food banks and meal programs all across Canada have increased again this year.

The people of Nanaimo and area are very generous to us. Last year we received donations of over 57,000 kg of food and enough cash donations to purchase another $45,000.00 worth of fresh food items such as turkeys, chickens, hams, oranges, potatoes, carrots, bread, milk, cheese and eggs. We also had a substantial amount of non-perishable food left to feed people in the months following Christmas.  Many local businesses and food suppliers partner with us to ensure we keep our operating costs down and get the best value for our money.

All of our funding comes from generous community efforts such as yours and are critical to our success. We are a 100% volunteer run organization. All gifts are used for food purchases. We thank you for your participation and invite you to explore our website for more information. Here you will see a list of the most wanted items for our hampers. This list will change from time to time during the season as we go. We also have "Tips on hosting a Food Drive" for those organizations and businesses wishing to do more. We also have an “ADOPT A HAMPER” program as well. Check it out!

Hamperville Nanaimo is located this year at 2560 Bowen Rd (the old Madills building). Thanks to the generosity of the Laird/Wheaton GM Group, we again have a building and utilities donated for our use.

We can be reached by phone (250) 751-9780 or e-mail christmas.hampers@hotmail.com

From the 19th of November until Christmas, a dedicated team of volunteers numbering about 300 people in total will collect, sort and distribute hampers to our community. Many of these volunteers are also hamper recipients.  It is fun, rewarding and a job that needs to be done.

Thank you to all the people of Nanaimo and area. Thank you to the sports teams, church groups, service clubs, businesses, schools and the many individuals who help us in so many ways.

All the best of the season from Hamperville!! Hope to see you there!
