Jean Crowder To Address City Council

The next Committee of the Whole council meeting this Monday will have a presentation from our MP Jean Crowder.

The notice on the city agenda is not very specific as it refers only to her presentation dealing with local and federal government issues.

Whether her presentation will be addressing some of the current issues to do with the NPA and the inner harbour lease remains to be seen. In any case I don't think I remember when a Member of Parliament addressed city council.

A red letter name for Nanaimo for sure. Perhaps she will be announcing some huge transfer of federal funds to the city of Nanaimo?

  2. You said that you can't remember when an MP addressed city council.

Jean Crowder has been MP for Nanaimo-Cowichan riding since 2004. Prior to that, the MP for Nanaimo-Cowichan was Reed Elley and in 2003, he participated in a public hearing at City Hall and informed city council that Nanaimo was at risk of losing the federal funding that was available for homelessness initiatives, as the process in Nanaimo had been moving too slowly.

At the time, MP Elley was one of the many members of the Nanaimo Working Group on Homelessness Issues and Doug Creba of Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society and Tony White of the John Howard Society were directly involved in the process.
