More Blue Community Nonsense

They're Baaaaccckkkk!

I guess after finding out how easy it is to get this city council to dance to their tune, the group who cajoled city council into banning bottled water in civic facilities are now threatening to remove the coveted title of 'Blue Community' since the city did not extend the ban on bottled water sales completely.

A spokesman for the Council of Canadians claims they did not understand the motion which city council passed last June (probably neither did council), claiming they thought the ban would extend to outside event organizers such as the Dragon Boat Festival and anyone else renting the city facilities.

You may recall the last few times this issue was visited by this council it was akin to watching another episode of the Keystone Kops Visit City Council as everyone seemed confused by the entire issue. If I remember rightly Councilor Greves referred to the whole thing as looking like something a couple of guys came up with in the bar one night.

The Blue Community status, means absolutely nothing, and I doubt if it were not for the considerable pressure applied by CUPE this nonsense would have been dismissed with little discussion whatever.

  2. I remember the day, as I am sure you are Jim when we thought the sale of water in general was ludiscrous. Do you remeber the days just shortly before the sale of water in vending machines Jim, what were your thoughts then?

  3. Having had the opportunity to live in the metro Toronto area, the sale of bottled water for drinking never seemed ludicrous at all. It made far less sense to drink the tap water.
As for Nanaimo, buying bottle water instead of drinking tap water seems foolish to me. However, if I am at a civic event and need a drink I would like the option of buying a cold bottle of water, rather than just different pops.
