New City Hall Annex Now Open

Service and Resource Centre (aka Annex)

The new 43,000 square foot annex on Dunsmuir Street behind city hall is now officially open to serve the citizens of Nanaimo. Those in need of different services offered by the city whether paying taxes or water bills, seeking advice on building a new home or on a larger scale involved with major projects, will be able to now find all services under one roof.

The office design makes the best possible use of natural light with most work stations placed around the perimeter of the second and third floors. Low partitions separating work spaces insures maximum benefit of daylight and provides an open, interactive work space. It should provide a good working environment for the 150 employees who will call this new office 'home'.

The old city hall is currently undergoing renovations to accommodate a move of the city manager from the old annex, during which time legislative services and the mayor's office is being temporarily moved to the high risk old annex.

While the building no doubt is a vast improvement on old work space in the old annex, it is very spartan and likely won't be winning any design awards being a basic concrete and steel structure with walls made primarily out of glass.
