Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before .....
The city hall guys present the residential taxpayers with a 3.3% tax increase in the first draft budget and then by some miracle as if by magic the increase comes in at 'only' 2.9%!
As a further insult to the intelligence of Nanaimo residential taxpayers, they then will tell you how great a job they did by holding the 'blended' tax increase to only 1.9%. They fail to make the observation that one reason for the blended rate coming in at under 2% is because while residential taxpayer's rates are increased by 2.9%, the industrial rate is reduced by 24.2% Give us a break!
Funding Water Sewer and Roads Is Now A 'Special' Levy?
As if to further distract from the facts, we are then told our tax increases would be even lower if it were not for the 1% 'asset management' levy. Since when did properly funding our water, sewer and roads become something requiring a special assessment? Aren't water, sewer and roads what we thought city hall was taking care of all along?
That of course and $16,000,000 three storey warehouses to keep city staff safe.
