Hello Ms Flicker

Ms Flicker Enjoying An Energy-Packed Breakfast

Just outside our front room window we have a suet/seed block hanging which is usually frequented by chick-a-dees, bush tits, downy woodpecker and sparrows.

However, I was fortunate enough to catch Ms Flicker the other day which is a little unusual as the Flickers in our yard are usually pretty timid and cautious creatures. Whenever they come to the backyard seed feeders, they usually don't stay long and seem to always have one eye open for any sign of danger.

It was quite a treat to see this one within a foot of our window and she stayed for quite sometime.  Given we often see both the female and the male in our yard, I assume they are nested quite close by and we should see some young ones within a month or so.
