Oddfellows Clock Official Dedication

Members of City Council, MLA Krog, city staff members, general public and the press were on hand for the official dedication of the newest Nanaimo landmark.

The generous gift of this $50,000+ clock was made to the city by Black Diamond Lodge #5 and The Miriam Rebekah Lodge #3 I.O.O.F. as the service club is coming to the end of it's 100 years of service to Nanaimo.

The donation of the clock was based on one of the Lodge's three tenets which is promoting civic pride. Sadly, the Lodge is suffering from the same ailment affecting many 'service' clubs these days with few younger people coming onside to continue in the service to community.

The top photo is the plaque on the clock, centre photo is Mayor Ruttan officially thanking the Lodge for their most generous contribution to the city and the bottom photo is of members of the Lodge with Mayor Ruttan and Councillor Johnstone.

A light lunch was enjoyed in the nearby Port Theatre which is a fitting 'thank you' for the valuable part the Lodge has played in the service of the citizens of Nanaimo.

The clock chimes on the hour until 10:00 pm and has a repertoire of 100 different chimes from around the world. If you have not seen the clock yet, you will find it at the entrance to McGregor Park right across from the Port Theatre.
