Aboriginal Day Celebration

Snuneymuxw First Nation Celebrate

Departure Bay beach was the location on Friday for the Snuneymuxw First Nation to celebrate their heritage which they freely shared with the all who came to share the event.

Food was plentiful as was different activities and displays highlighting the rich culture of those who first occupied this most excellent place to live.

Their song and dance offered a glimpse into their tradition of celebration, prayer and story telling as a troupe of performers demonstrated for the appreciative crowd.

With a little imagination you could almost imagine how Departure Bay would have once looked, if you removed all of the evidence of the past 200 years and the bay were lined with longhouses as the Snuneymuxw would have gone about their peaceful lives enjoying all the bounty this place would offer.

You sometimes have to wonder if what we call improvement and progress, truly is either.
