City of Nanaimo Wants To Keep Lakes

City of Nanaimo Voted To Replace The Dams
Colliery Preservation Society Wants Same Thing
So What Exactly Is All The Fussing About?

Why Does The City Choose The Most Expensive Option?

As a taxpayer in the delightful city of Nanaimo I sometimes have to remind myself I have not really joined Alice down the rabbit hole, but then again .........

It seems to have taken months and months, and untold hundreds of thousands of engineering dollars, but all of city council has voted to replace the Colliery Dam Park dams, which is also the fight the Preservation Society has been engaged in since last November.

So why oh why is the city of Nanaimo's crack staff recommending the most costly way possible to achieve this end? I realize it is not their money they are spending, I also realize that a few councillors seem to think they can only get the best value if they spend the most money. I also realize that a few councillors don't really seem to ever know what is going on, but that is another story.

The only reason for proceeding with the course Councillor Brennan moved and not agreeing with Councillor Pattje's motion is the claimed concern for public safety over this winter season.

The matter of public safety vis a vis the dams somehow failing after being sound the past 100 years  can easily be mitigated against without removal of the dams.

By proceeding on the course of Brennan's motion, this council is simply setting a match to perhaps millions of tax dollars.

Just how far down the rabbit hole do some councilors call home?
