License-Free FIshing This Weekend


FAMILY FISHING DAY

Interested in trying fishing for the first time? Or is time to dust off your fishing rod and reel? Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture and friends are hosting Family Fishing Day at Westwood Lake, Saturday, June 15th, from 11am to 3pm. We invite families and fishing enthusiasts to come out and participate in a variety of activities at Westwood Lake.

• Fish license-free fishing June14-16th at Westwood Lake
• Learn about ethical fishing techniques
• Release trout into Westwood Lake with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.
• Talk to community organizations and other exhibitors
• Search and rescue demos
• Island Water Fly Fishers casting demos

Nanaimo’s Family Fishing Day is part of BC’s Family Fishing Weekend, an annual celebration of the great sport of fishing. The BC Government offers a complimentary 3-day basic freshwater licence valid only for June 14-15-16, 2013. Fisheries and Oceans Canada also encourages BC residents to try their hand at tidal (saltwater) fishing with free tidal water fishing licence.
