Colliery Dams Removal & Rebuild
Guaranteed Cost $8,565,000.00
(Includes Lowering Water To Safe Level)
A local Nanaimo business, CANbuild Solutions proposes to remove the two existing aging dam structures in the Colliery Dam Park in Nanaimo and rebuild two new Roller Compacted Concrete dams in their stead.
The removal and reconstruction of the new Colliery Dams will be completed for a guaranteed cost of $8.6M. This price includes $400K for an engineered draw down of water (to the satisfaction of the Dam Safety Branch) for the period until reconstruction can occur in the summer of 2014.

At last a common sense approach to the no permit plan Mr. Sims and Ms Brennan are so happy with. It's too bad Councillor Johnstone doesn't seem to understand the concept of risk and probability. Why is the public safety of the few living below the dams, the only safety she seems to worry about. She can't possibly believe the rest of Nanaimo won't be toast if this big shaker ever happens? I don't think Johnstone really is capable of challenging what Sims tells her.
