Tech Sector Economic Impact To Be Assessed

Nanaimo Tech Firms Encouraged To Participate

The Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation (NEDC) and Innovation Island are excited to be working together to release a detailed economic impact study relating to the technology sector for the Nanaimo region. The study will help Nanaimo best position itself for the future and give it a firm grasp on the benefits realized by the knowledge economy. Nordicity, a leading consulting firm specializing in policy, strategy, and economic analysis in the information and communications technology sectors, has been selected to produce this report.

“Understanding the real economic impacts of the tech sector on the Nanaimo Region will help us continue to grow and diversify our local economy. The household sustaining jobs that this sector creates are important to growing our economic prosperity.” – Sasha Angus, NEDC CEO

As part of the work to be undertaken, Nordicity will be updating and validating a detailed list of the various firms that play a key role in the vibrant technology sector of the Nanaimo region. Additionally, Nordicity will collect vital economic data from this sector (on a confidential basis), which will allow Nordicity to estimate the impact the technology sector has on the local economy.

“The best way to ensure the tech sector is accurately reflected in this process is to get involved.  We encourage all tech firms to take part in this exercise.” – Paris Gaudet, Innovation Island Executive Director

Technology professionals are invited to a sector meet-up on Sept. 30  from 4:30 – 6p.m. at Fibber Magee’s to provide input to the project and network. RSVP peter.mcgee@investnanaimo.com by September 25 for the sector meet-up.
