A Great Way To Spend An Afternoon
If you want something a little different to do on a day off, consider a visit to the Nanaimo River Hatchery taking a self guided tour along the waterway where you will encounter Chinook, Coho, Chum and Pink Salmon as they return to spawn. Apparently the Pink Salmon return this year is nearing a record number with an estimated 50,000 fish returning.
To get to the hatchery take the Island Highway South, past the Bungy Zone and turn left by the Cassidy Inn and follow the signs to the hatchery. You can download a copy of the Hatchery's brochure using this
