Wellcox Property Committee Seeks Public Input

The South Downtown Waterfront Initiative has launched its website to gain community input, and share information about the project ( www.southdowntownwaterfront.ca ) .

In June of 2013, the Committee was created to direct this initiative toward a vision that will help guide future land use planning in the study area for the next 30 to 40 years. Along with other outreach strategies, the Committee is looking for public input through the website, which is also designed to share information about the process, along with the history, complexities, and opportunities this waterfront area offers.

The website provides the community with an opportunity to share ideas early on, before the vision takes shape. This input will help form the vision for the study area, and will be summarized on the website on an ongoing basis.

Further community input is sought at the upcoming Harbour Fair , planned for October 5th, between 1 pm and 4 pm (Front Street, across from Port Place Mall) .

Harbour Fair invites the community onto the property, and will offer tours of the site, as well an opportunity to meet and share ideas with the landowners and lessees. Food, prizes, and information will be on hand all in the spirit of collectively visioning the future of one of Nanaimo’s last urban frontiers.
