Happy Thanksgiving To All

Another Bountiful Harvest

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.

In  modern day Canada we are separated from the source of our food and likely have no idea what being thankful for a bountiful harvest is about. I have lived all my life in Canada and have never known a time of lack or the hardship coming from a failed harvest. Thanksgiving has become just another long weekend.

A weekend traditionally spent around a bountiful table with family and friends eating a meal whose menu is dictated as much by tradition as anything else. The idea of genuine thanksgiving is a concept, I dare say is pretty foreign to most of us, unless we have experienced a real time of lack and hardship.

Having been born in such a rich and bountiful country I fear I tend to pretty much take for granted that for which I should give more consideration.

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to all.
