Nanaimo Art Explorer App
Bundle up this
fall and take a tour of Nanaimo’s public art pieces but be sure to keep your
mobile device handy. The City of Nanaimo has recently launched the ‘Nanaimo Art
Explorer App’; https://m.nanaimo.ca/art/ . Using your smart phone you can now
enjoy a guided tour our local public art collection.
Once launched, the application will ask
to use your device’s GPS to find your location. Simply swipe through the images
of the art pieces until you find one you’re interested in and tap on ‘learn
more’ to display a description of the art and information about the artist. You
can also use the ‘search’ function to find pieces by artist, art type, material
or keyword. You can also click on ‘map’ to search instalments that are further
away from you.
For those who would rather take a tour
from the comfort of your home office, this information is also available using
the existing online public art inventory at www.nanaimo.ca . Nanaimo’s Community Plan for
Public Art is also available for viewing online, the goal is to encourage and
support the presence of public art for Nanaimo residents and visitors. It is one
of the pillars of the City’s commitment to the promotion and celebration of
local cultural talent.
